In the midst of all the world turmoil in today’s news, can you imagine a day when Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, China, North Korea, Iraq, Syria, Israel, Egypt, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, the United States, and all the nations of the world will all be reconciled, worshiping God in peace and unity?
Consider the words of Isaiah: In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. In that day Israel will be the third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, whom the LORD of hosts has blessed, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.” Isaiah 19:23-25
Can you imagine this? 2700 years ago, Assyria was one of the great empires of the world; after Egypt and before Babylon were the super powers. At one time, Assyria controlled a vast region, all of modern Iraq, most of modern Syria, a significant part of modern Turkey, all of Israel and well into Egypt.
Writing at the height of Assyria’s power, Isaiah tells of a time when Assyria will conquer Egypt (Isaiah 19:1-15) but of a later time when Egypt will turn to God and experience His healing. Even later, Assyria, Egypt and Israel will be united in worship of the God of Israel, the LORD. When will this take place? Is this the Millennium of Revelation 20:1-6, the 1000 years when Jesus rules on earth? Is this the “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells”(2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1)? Perhaps Both!
Yes, God promises that a day is coming when all nations (all ethnicities) will be represented around the throne of God. …by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation… (Revelation 5:9)
